Report: USA Basketball finalizes veteran, star-studded Olympic roster

James will be playing in his fourth Olympics, having won bronze in 2004 and gold medals in 2008 and 2012. It will be Curry's first Olympics, having withdrawn with knee and ankle injuries months before the 2016 Rio Games. 

Kevin Durant will be trying to win his fourth gold medal, which would be the most golds in men's basketball history — Carmelo Anthony is tied with Durant with three gold medals, while Sue Bird and Diana Taurasi have five each.

There's a few players besides Durant returning from the team that won gold in Tokyo last Olympics. Devin Booker, Jrue Holiday, Bam Adebayo and Jayson Tatum all won gold with Team USA, while Anthony Davis won gold in 2012.

The new players include Tyrese Haliburton, Anthony Edwards and Joel Embiid, who became a United States citizen in 2022. They may need his size going up against France, the silver medalists from Tokyo who will be fielding a team with both Victor Wembanyama and Rudy Gobert.

Overall, the 2024 Olympic roster has combined for seven NBA MVP trophies and seven Finals MVPs, plus 78 All-Star appearances. James is the oldest at age 39, while Edwards is the youngest at 22.

So far, USA Basketball is keeping one open spot on the roster, though it's expected to fill it as the Paris Olympics get closer. While the rest of the team is full of All-Stars, don't rule out the team choosing a defensive-minded player or specialist, like JaVale McGee in 2020. 

Though with this overwhelming collection of talent, it's hard to see where this team needs any help at all.
