Why the Detroit Lions are a perfect fit for Oregon's Troy Franklin in the 2024 NFL Draft
Troy Wayrynen-USA TODAY Sports

The 2024 NFL draft is next week. So in this final week ahead of time, I want to go over some of my top players for the Lions in this draft and make the case as to why they're the perfect fit for the Lions. We'll be covering Oregon receiver Troy Franklin in this one. Here's who we've covered so far:

Kool-Aid McKinstry
Terrion Arnold
Xavier Legette

The Draw

If you watch the film, the first thing that seems to pop is that he is just always open. Franklin just finds a way to get the ball thrown to him. He has great change of direction to get open over the middle and he has great straight line speed to get open on the outside.

Franklin can also go up and get the contested catches as well. He's not limited to just getting open. That's something the Lions would be dangerous with.

The Drawback

The drawback is that he's only 187 pounds. Franklin needs to put on some weight and some muscle. I know there's players that like Devonta Smith that are succeeding right now despite being skinny, but it's always a risk when you have corners and safeties coming at you legs.

Where can the Lions get him?

He's rising up the board. There was a time when the Lions could have netted him with the 61st pick, but that time seems to have passed. The Lions would likely have to use the 29th pick or trade down a few spots if they want to draft him. All the receivers are starting to move up.
