Joao Felix pushed hard to sign for Barcelona last summer, leaving Atletico Madrid on a temporary basis. He will return to Los Rojiblancos at the end of the season, but his chances of heading back to Catalonia are looking slim.

In recent weeks, it’s been reported that Barcelona will not prioritise another deal for Felix during the summer transfer window, as their priorities lie elsewhere. Marca have backed this up, stating that Atleti officials do not expect Los Blaugrana to make a move towards re-signing him, neither for another loan or a permanent transfer.

It leaves Atleti in a difficult position, as Felix will not be welcomed back into Diego Simeone’s squad. As such, the last “salvation” for all parties is the upcoming European Championship in Germany – if the 24-year-old impresses for Portugal, there is a hope that clubs will come calling for him.

It makes total sense for Barcelona to move on from Felix, as it’s been shown that there is little need for him in Xavi Hernandez’s squad – especially considering the cost it would take for an eventual permanent transfer. Atletico Madrid will be praying that other clubs register interest in the coming weeks.
